Setting Up ocmacguru.com

I decided to setup ocmacguru.com as a standalone self hosted web site.  The site is hosted on an amazon web services EC2 instance.  I will be providing more info on this experience.  Basically it’s pretty cool.  This is a test post.

Mac Shortcuts

Joes Favorite Shortcuts

Check these out. As I think of them I’ll share my favorite Mac keyboard shortcuts here:

Command-Option-Drag
Create an alias to a file and put it where ever you like by holding down this key combo while dragging and dropping a file.

Command-Shift-Drag
When dragging and dropping from Volume to another will Move the fill instead of copying (which is the default behavior).  If you are dragging and dropping with the same Volume, then the default behavior is to Move.

Command-Shift-Y
Instantly creates a sticky note from any text you have selected.

Command-Shift-4
Takes a screen shot of any area of the screen.  Use the cross-hair to create a box around anything on your screen and you’ll get a file on your desktop containing your screen shot. The extension might be different depending on what version of OS X you run.

Command-Shift-3
Takes a screen shot of the whole screen.

For both cmd-shift-3 and cmd-shift-4, If you hit the space-bar instead of clicking then you get a little cursor that looks like a camera. Clicking a window will create a screenshot of just that window. Hold down the Control key before clicking and instead of a file being created on your Desktop, the screenshot will be copied to the clipboard.
